Petition to co-enroll in PH 165a/b AND/OR PH 165c/d

The leadership series was designed to be taken in the last 4 semesters, without co-enrollment, as demonstrated in the course catalog and road maps. The undergraduate program and advising coordinators are now reviewing requests for Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025 co-enrollment in PH 165a/b and/or PH 165 c/d due to extenuating circumstances. Requests must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, May 22nd. Students will be notified of the decision by Friday, May 24th. Students requesting an exception from taking the courses over the four final semesters must:

  1. have a course plan through graduation; the plan must demonstrate a need for co-enrollment. Students must use the PH advising worksheets found here. Use MyProgress to help with the planning.
  2. be graduating in 2024 or 2025 and having applied for graduation.
  3. be able to complete all coursework without exceeding 19 units/semester
  4. be in good academic standing, cannot be on academic notice.
  5. Include a brief personal statement explaining your request for co-enrollment

Send 1) the completed advising worksheet through graduation 2) student ID# 3) personal statement to public-health-advising@sjsu.edu

Subject line should read: “Request for co-enrollment in ____” Ex. Request for co-enrollment in PH 165a/b.

Best,

Dr. Anji Buckner, PH program coordinator

Prof Felicia Noonis, PH advising coordinator

F24 Schedule Update

PH 183 – Special Topics in CHE – Non-Profit Management, will be offered in Fall 2024, Wednesdays, 6:00 – 8:45pm, in-person. This class is open to all PH majors/minors and required for CHE students. Keep your eye on the schedule to enroll when it opens.

PH 193 – the enrollment requirements mistakenly show that PH 161 & 167 are prerequisites for the course. The only prerequisite we will enforce is upper division standing. If you need an add code for the course, email public-health-advising@sjsupublichealth with your student ID and request.

PH students may co-enroll in PH 104 and PH 188 in Fall 2024. If you need an add code, email public-health-advising@sjsupublichealth with your student ID and request.

Reminder, if you are currently enrolled in a class that is a prerequisite for a course you want to take in Fall 2024 and you are unable to enroll for this reason, you will be able to enroll once grades are posted for SP24 and you’ve successfully completed the course. Example: SP24 enrolled in PH 104 and want to take PH 179 in Fall 2024; can enroll once grades post by June 1st.

What does it mean if a PH class I want to enroll in shows “department consent”?

Courses designated as “Department Consent” in the schedule are not available for enrollment. Students should enroll in another section of the course to ensure they can take it in the fall. If there is demonstrated need in the course and all remaining sections are full, the section designated “Department Consent” may open.

Additional answers to enrollment questions can be found in this F24 enrollment FAQ .

Be sure to check course pre-requisites

Many classes have pre-requisites that must be met before you can enroll. The registration system does not always enforce pre-requisites and you may be allowed to enroll without meeting the pre-reqs but when classes begin, you will be asked to provide proof of pre-reqs or be dropped from the course. Check the catalog for required PH classes and their pre-requisites.

Classes that must be taken in your final semester, capstone (PH 179, 189, 199) and PH 165d, have pre-requisites. Ensure you are taking the pre-requisites PRIOR to your final semester.

ALL public health students should plan to successfully complete PH 104, 161, 167, PH 165c PRIOR to their final semester so that they can take the capstone course and PH 165d in their final semester.
